Render Kit

One scene, four passes. Hold the scanline and see the same geometry as wireframe, clay, normals and final material.
  • Drag across the scene to move the scanline
  • Pass buttons choose what sits behind the line
  • Tap an object to isolate it
  • Explode slider pulls the kit apart

How How it is made

The wireframe of it.

  1. Every object is built from code: rounded boxes, extruded shapes, instanced cells. No model files.
  2. Each mesh is drawn twice, once per pass, and a clipping plane that passes through the camera splits them, so the cut is a perfectly vertical line on screen.
  3. The final material gets a glow injected into its shader wherever a surface is close to that plane, which is the hot edge you see.
  4. Screens are canvas textures drawn at load time from the same data as the case studies.

Performance

One shared renderer for the page, pixel ratio capped at 1.5 (1.25 on phones), renders only while visible.

Without WebGL, or with motion set to Still

A still frame of the kit when WebGL is unavailable or motion is set to Still.
